48x 1990 (37x Bdx, 6x Napa, 5x others): I’ve experienced other white Bordeaux from the pre-premox era before and they age at a glacial pace. Blind, you would have never guessed this to be a 30+ year old white wine (probably a 10 year old max). It was nice but a bit on the light side of things and not overly complex or exciting.
TN: Rather muted nose. A bit more open on the palate with citrus and lime, limestone minerality and some sweeter oak notes. Quite round and pleasant, young and fresh, doesn‘t seem to age. Slight creamy. A bit simple.
Decanting: Not decanted, maybe a long decant would have changed things here.

Bordeaux 1982-1990 tasting (Restaurant Essen'z, Brugg): Bordeaux 1982-1980 tasting of selected wines, including a couple of pirates. All wines were decanted for at least 2-3 hours, tasted in flights of 2 and single-blind. While not a representative sample, I would venture the following observations: 1/ First growths in 1988 should not be underestimated for the hedonistic pleasure they offer, 2/ 1990 first growths have not yet passed through their closed stage, 3/ you’ll find stand-out second tier wines from 1982. 4/ Highlights were Palmer 89 and Gruaud Larose 82 (96 each).
Tasting note: Initially rather oxidized with predominantly nutty aromas and some orange peel. Weakish palate too. Decided then to decant for a while and give it a vigorous swirling. This helped to clean up the nose quite materially and brought to light nice orange zest fruit with only slightly nutty flavours and a bit of petrol acting as features. Palate remained thin and too acidic, however. No match to the 1986 which has maintained a youthful freshness beyond belief.
