Followed over a whole evening, and this needed a couple of hours to open up. Keeps evolving, which is half the fun with these classics.
Overall, this is nevertheless dominated by mushrooms and a balsamic note on the nose, but much more elegant in the mouth. Lovely acidity and great structure. Long finish with a distinct coffee note to round things off. I'm not sure there's much to gain from further keeping though, unless this was a mildly advanced bottle.
The others liked it better than me this afternoon. I thought this suffered from it's place in the order served -it would have showed better before some of the CNDP's that preceded it. While this had Bruno's classic touch of caramel, burnt sugar the aromatics were a little closed down and this bottle did not exhibit the feminine lightness of previous bottles (see Jeb's note from 2007). A nice bottle but I have come to expect more from Il maestro.
