Decanted and served. Well aged syrah, with secondary notes coming through at this stage. Good tannin and acidity hold the wine together and the medium weight of fruit and absence of oak give the wine a good feeling of terroir. Pure in many ways and well made. Good length too. Nice surprise. 91-92
Perfectly competent wine, in an international but not overblown style, you would not be disgusted to be served it but equally you would not be blown away and want to get it again.
It probably deserves a higher mark however...
- THIRTY NINE QUID??? - Drank in the middle of a cornas evening - the most expensive bottle we had and by far the dullest. - I would struggle to know it was Syrah, never mind Cornas. - Did I mention it cost THIRTY NINE QUID???
