Elegant nose with somewhat waxy aromatics. Dried fruits complemented by a cooling herbaceous lift, redcurrant brightness, sweet liquorice, caramel, tobacco, graphite and a touch of dark chocolate. Fullbodied palate with fine supple touch, carrying acidity and sweetish fruit. Apricots and red berries. Liquorice, tobacco, tea and slight mocha. Mid-length. Nice effort with fine brightness - though not as complex as the best of old Conternos.
Rusty nose with strong notes of roasted coffee, depth; the palate is still well-balanced, with some fruit, but the tannins are drying and the coffee note is unpleasant; good length. Seems over the hill. Just this bottle or the wine? Purchased in 1993, no clue as to the storage conditions in the two preceding decades.
