  • I've had this for at least 15 years--probably purchased from a small central IL chain that was known for its Australian offerings at the time. I doubt that I paid more than 25/b for it--more likely under 20/b. The color is still dark and rich with only a hint of amber on the rim. At opening the nose was full of Aussie CS eucalyptus, and the wine was full bodied with good fruit and a 5-10 second finish. We drank it with a dinner of pate' and cheese. After 90 minutes, the fruit had faded, and I felt it lost much of its richness. My wife preferred it that way. Either way, it was remarkably good for a 23-year-old. I doubt that this was ever a profound wine, but it has held up very well for a good Aussie CS.

  • Poured deep, purple/red still looking quite young, with a nose of classic cigar and blackcurrent. No sign of jam or over concentrated/cooked fruit here. Refreshing on the palate due to good acid and clean, ripe fruit, this Menzies was beautifully balanced and aged. A long length on the finish only added to the experience. The wine started to break-up a touch after two hours in the decanter, so I suspect that I it wont age for that much longer. Beautiful.

Drank it with Sirloin done on the BBQ for a Pom and a South Korean. They too enjoyed the wine/steak combo.
