Saturday hangout (socially distanced) (Chicago, IL): Served double blind from a vial opened the night before. The nose seems much older than the palate, and there is a strange dichotomy between the clearly Burgundian nose (with wet, dead leaves and drying red fruit) and the decidedly nebbiolo-like tannins. I was more inclined to think this was a very old Piedmont on that basis.

Not something I'd usually go for but the price was right...Meaty, a little forest floor, coffee, slight tobacco leaf, creamy, brambles and oaky sweet spice all vie for attention on the nose. In the mouth initially it's juicy to the point of sharpness which led to a very gentle decant. This helped the fruit come more to the fore and lifted the oak sweetness but, overall, this is a bit meh for me.

Decanted 1,5 hrs. Big, immediate nose with quite evident oak. Dark berries and walnuts. After a while the indian spices comes around followed by flowers, soy, medicinal herbs, and some meat stock. Quite developed, wild and a little "funky". Succulent, medium plus body with good grip, albeit a little bit astringent finish. Very Pinot-typical. Dark and red berries, lightly perfumed, hints of leather and some root crops. The wine had some rowdy tannins and a little "funky" performance. Typical Corton? Not soft Beaune, not powerful Nuits. Jasper Morris mentions Jadot as a good producer of Corton-Grevès, which otherwise is not noted among the best lieu-dits of the Corton hill. We liked it in a charming, robust way.

(Louis Jadot Corton Grèves) Spicy and dense, with a nose of red cherry, currant, and plum. The velvety mouthfeel and chewy texture lead to a finish that’s both fruity and fine. Appellation: Corton
