  • Brick-ruby color- full body in the glass. Plenty of fruit and floral on the nose- black cherry, violet, toffee & cedar. Expressive and forward fruit on the palate with notes of cherry and strawberry along with subtle herb, spice and floral accents. High-pitched, juicy and somewhat polished with ripe tannin and full finish of medium length. Very nice, and a champ with dinner (rosemary chicken & mushroom w/dijon cream sauce).

  • White pepper in the nose, lightish body reminiscent of French country wines and ease with food. Over several hours the body thickens to a dry velvety texture that is very pleasant.

  • This year The Beast has come with a proper label, and it turns out to be 53% Grenache, 7% Mourvedre (James Berry) and 40% Syrah (Clary Ranch).

  • This was named "The Beast" in reference to its animal nature and given away at the 1st Wind Gap open house. My label only says 2007 and "Syr-Gr-Mvd" and I wondered if it was a pre-release of the James Berry blend, but it is not. It is basically a declassified blend of 40% James Berry fruit and 60% Clary Ranch Syrah. This has a nice combination of raspberry, leather, mocha, olive, and other red fruits and features some upfront sweetness that washes over the more mineral-tinged structure on the back half. 90+ for this effort. I appreciate the customer appreciation here since I'm a loyal but relatively small-volume buyer.
