Bob’s cellar. Dark garnet r d. No bricking at all. Nose of dark menthol, liquorice and cassis black fruit. Same firm as the ‘96 and ‘98 but a degree fresher and younger. Taste has a more vigorous tannic overlay, saltiness, cassis and red acidity. Seems a lot younger than the ‘96 and ‘98’s (which obviously it is) and a little more basic and less desirable? More of a basic SA red.

Still quite fresh, plenty of blackcurrant and liquorice, this is drinking well and is a classic Oz blend. The acidity will probably make it last for ages but the fruit is only going to fade from here, so drink now/soon.

baked dark fruits, beef extract, umami, a little blackcurrant, plum. Juicy, fleshy, savoury, meaty baked dark fruits are less delineated on the palate, tannins are grainy but lightweight, caramel, smidge of leather. Long, slight alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm.

Classic 389- plenty of years left in it. Probably needs a 2-3 hour decant.
