Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Opened for my birthday 2010.
Colour of cranberry juice with orange brick on the rim.
Aroma initially included game, earthiness and general red fruits evolving into tart cherry, strawberry, red currant and rose hip. After 20 minutes, it developed into pomegranate, hibiscus and ripe concord grape.
It exhibited layers of raspberry, pomegranate and cranberry with chalkiness. It has enough forward acidity and tannin to hold the structure but it is less concentrated than what I hoped it to be. Lovely medium finish. Considering the vintage which is more miss than hit, Bouchard did a good job to bring out attractive perfume and spice while maintaining balance, charm and strength of Vosne-Romanée. It was the last vintage in which Bouchard vinified, bottled, and sold this wine before Vicomte (later Comte) Liger-Belair resumed control over this historical monopole at the foot of Château de Vosne-Romanée. It accompanied broil-seared fillet mignon perfectly.
