Drank alongside the 2007 Ile de Vergelesses, which made for an interesting reference point. That wine was open and ready, with a detailed musky pungency and with good impact and length. This wine, the Clos du Roi, needs more time. It's not the tannins or the integration of fruit and wood that make the wine feel too young, it's more that the aromas and flavors are inward and coiled, they have not yet unfurled. There are glimpses, and the fruit seems lovely and there is more midpalate density than the Ile de V. After a few hours there were some nice spice notes on the nose. This is good wine, but I was not convinced that something great is lying in wait here. Maybe, maybe not. If I had more, I'd wait another decade before getting involved.

i found this wine rather light and with a distinct metallic edge to the flavor profile. for a grand cru from an early drinking vintage, i was hoping for a bit more fruit, and a bit more flavor authority. not my glass of burgundy... perhaps another bottle will be better!

Mørke bær. dyp, kjølig frukt. Eksotisk krydder. Kjølig innover i munn, stram finnish. Lang. Saliverende munnfølelse. Litt alko på nese og i finnish. Tanninstrukturen drar veldig på seg og blir svært tiltalende.

definitely get the 'essence of liquid dirt' comment made by another taster. found there to be some floral aromatics, with pine needle and a faint raspberry hiding in there somewhere. perhaps this will improve with age or there just sin't much fruit in there to begin with. time will tell.
