  • Beautiful red garnet-like the 2009s. Nose all young Pauillac, black and red fruits with a hint of tobacco. Mouth medium weight, berries and 'asian spices.' A touch thin on the midpalate.

  • In the line up of these wines (all tasted blind) the Lynch Bages was clearly at disadvantage being what I believe in its tunnel phase. I have lost my notes from the tasting but I remember a pretty nose of dark fruit, moccha, tobacco but being very disappointed when tasting it. Tannins clearly dominate and I don't really have the experience of judging a wine at this stage but to me it lacks balance, I doubt the fruit element is enough to carry it through (?) its dumb phase. No score given, it would be unfair. I really hope it will come around in another 10-15 years or so. Will for sure wait it out for my own bottles.

  • From a half bottle (375ml)

    Dark red to purple color in the glass.
    Nose of nuts, subtle wood, chocolate
    Surprisingly smooth with fine tannins.
    Long and lingering finish of at least 45 seconds drawing you back in for more.

    An enjoyable wine which was surprisingly ready to drink (albeit the half bottle may have helped). Those with full bottles can definitely keep for longer as no rush to consume.

  • Deep purple, almost black, inky core. Punchy and youthful aromas of raspberry, violet and vanilla. On the palate this medium to full bodied wine reveals layers of cassis, chocolate and licorice. Very good alcohol/acidity balance and a viscous and soft texture. The tannins are abundant but not quite fully integrated yet. Needs another 2 to 3 years to reach its peak but will easily cruise for another 20 after that. Medium to long finish. Drinking window: 2015-2035.

  • Coming into a good place already. Medium bodied but textured and rich, with layers of black cherries and a floral overtone. No rush on these babies.

    (Château Lynch-Bages) Very dark red violet color; cedar, tart currant, black fruit nose; tight, cedar, tart currant palate, needs 3-plus years; medium-plus finish 91+ pts. (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc)

    (Chateau Lynch-Bages (Pauillac)) An unusual nose of slightly caramelised fruit with a hint of smoke and gamey meat. There are some spicy Pauillac elements behind it though. Less aromatic on the palate but very bold and structured here. In fact it seems quite inexpressive in the mouth although there is an attractive combination of gritty substance and gentle tannic structure. Perhaps just a little more relaxed and diffuse than I would really like. Closed? A difficult one to call.

    (Chateau Lynch-Bages Pauillac) Sweet, crystalline, cherry fruit with a dark character and also a little toast. The palate is rounded, seamless but firm; there is a little not of oiliness to it too. Lots of meat here, good fruit, not particularly vibrant but certainly dense. Polished, but not as bright or vigorous as some.
