A very deep ruby color, red rim, opaque center. The nose is classic cab, black current and black cherry, hints of graphite, earth, licorice, dried flowers and herbs. Very clean and appealing. All that fruit shows up on the palate, and it is sweet and ripe without being jammy or overdone. After the fruit, tar and licorice come to the fore, and there is good balance between ripeness and acidity. After about an hour and a half, the wine began to tighten up, and seem more tannic and closed. There is a lot of grip still in this wine, and I think I might wait at least a few more years before opening another. The pedigree is very evident in this wine.
This has calmed down since the last time I had it a couple years ago, great fruit, squid ink, mint, and a good amount of oak still. This is a great wine and by itself I imagine I might have thought it was even better but in the flight with an '07 Maybach and '07 Ovid it did not have the balance that they have.
