Community Tasting Notes (average 85.3 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 3 notes)

Tasted by cadel on 11/9/2009 & rated 87 points: (42 views)
Tasted by SFDoug on 7/11/2009 & rated 84 points: Unusual depth for a rose. Some citrus, light finish. (146 views)
Tasted by TLHWG on 7/3/2009 & rated 85 points: Nose: lime zest & steel with bright red cherry & cranberry notes.

Taste: first the red fruit, then the steel. Medium mouth-feel for a rose.

Overall: Not fruit-forward, sweet new world rose. Somewhat challenging--may not be immediately accessible to most people. Food friendly, e.g, BBQ, shrimp cocktail, etc. My first Clairet rose. Nice. (205 views)

RAP: Rosé Avengers and Producers (Rosé advocacy group)

Rosé wines vary from just pink to almost raspberry juice red in color, and can be referred to as rosé, pink or blush wines. Rosés are made from black grapes, but don’t fully turn red because the grape skins are removed from the juice mere hours after contact. This brief contact with the grape skins gives the wine a pink color from the slight transference of red pigments from the skins. Rosés can also be made by blending together white and red wines, but this is not very common outside of champagne. This brief skin contact also ensures that a minimal amount of tannins enters the wine. Adapted from Winegeeks website.
The variety Red Bordeaux Blend on CellarTracker implies any blend using any or all of the five traditional Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. As such, this is used worldwide, whether for wines from Bordeaux, Meritages from California and Canada, some Super-Tuscan wines etc.
