  • Ben and Wendy Goldberg's post festa dinner

    Double decanted in the AM

Balsam, roses and tar. Still with well balanced acid keeping it fresh but also a touch lean. Savory, with dried rose, some heme and nice perfume. Not the best bottle I have had of this but considering the night, a relative winner. 89pts

  • Matt N. brought this to my parents' 50th anniversary lunch. Double decanted, probably open for some time, not sure how long.

When you get an aged wine that is right in the zone, it is a thing to behold. Aromas of truffle, earth, marzipan, some root beer, dried meat, a bit of beef, some bright spices, hints of dried strawberry and rose. The perfume is simply intoxicating. The palate is light, but the flavor is intense and bright, the acid is good, and the tannins and structure are fully resolved - it's supple and delicious with flavors of truffle, earth, marzipan, spice, a bit of strawberry, just a touch of sweetness, meaty, savory. Just developing a bit of the tertiary orange peel. The finish is long, savory, sweet, carrying most of the flavors but especially the meat, the earth, and remaining fruit and the orange. This is the best Italian wine I've had (narrowly edging out a 94 Soldera Riserva). Simply a revelation. Thank you Matt! Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 6/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 2/2 = 19/20.

  • At first, the nose was dark, damp and almost moldy, yet the ‘67 Pora came around quickly in the glass to reveal dried flowers, strawberry, hints of mint, forest floor and minerals. On the palate, it displayed a dark and meaty character with savory, almost salty minerality, dark red fruits and hints of smoke. It finished on dried berries and plum, with a touch of light tannin.

  • Tucson '67 Produttori Horizontal

Double decanted in the AM, then drunk over several hours and the following morning

Deeper pitched nose than the base Barbaresco. More spice and rose floral note. Excellent tension and balance. A harmonious wine that draws you in with a beautiful contrast of power and grace, depth and complexity coupled with an incredible ease of drinking it. Menthol and balsamic notes, great perfume, and a softness and suppleness that belies its depth. Overnight, this gained more savory meaty notes, but lost none of its rose/ perfume and cherry fruit note, maybe even gaining depth and the balsamic. 95
