  • Would of never guessed that Ducru’s second label would be even alive after 23 years, but to see it bright and shining was something special. It seems age has bleached its colour, however it is still tinged with medium pale ruby without any brownish hues. Modest aroma of lavender, cherries, cassis, tree bark, earth, oaky scents. Medium body, bright and tight structure with rustic hints, lively but short lived acidity with mild powdery tannins and touch of salinity and bitterness at the finish.

  • Monthly Tasting Group HWS #074; Bordeaux: St. Julien (By BS): Beautiful and elegant bouquet with red fruits like raspberries, dark forest fruits, some chocolate and coffee as well as a pleasant dose of oak. On the palate the same with soft acidity and mild, round tannin. Not extremely concentrated, but there are some pleasant luxurious elements. Drink between now and the next two years.

  • Fully mature. Slips down easily. Decent cabernet, but nothing special

  • Deep ruby core, narrow pale ruby rim.
Medium + intense nose, quite attractive and showing some development with blackcurrant, cedar and pencil shavings.
On the palate however this disappoints a little. It has has medium, almost resolved tannins and low/medium acidity. It is medium + bodied with reasonable concentration on a mid-palate dominated by blackcurrant fruit but with some cedar and spice notes. The finish is moderately extended but lacks a little acidity, and the palate as a whole is sturdy rather than elegant.
Overall slightly disappointing, and can't see it getting any better.

  • Medium/deep ruby core, narrow cherry red rim. Quite pronounced, perfumed nose, dominated by aromas of cassis, cedar and vanilla. On the palate, medium acidity, medium + tannins. Fairly good depth with cedar prominent on the mid-palate, also cassis and vanilla, good lenght finish. Good claret, drink now and over next 2-3 years.
