Very very light in the glass. At first high acid. Oxidized notes. A bit like sherry. After an hour or so the sherry notes settle down. Starting to fill out. Nice earth notes starting to appear.
I have always heard how old Barolo can be thin and one dimensional and then gain weight. I think I thought I experienced with old barolos (but old in this case being from the 1990s and maybe 1980s). This was so apparent here. After a few hours this is taking on some weight. And maybe even a bit darker?
I cannot help be influenced by knowing what this is and it’s age. But boy am I starting to enjoy it. Great with food (roast duck) but becoming quite lovely on its own.
