  • From magnum tonight with grilled, butterflied leg of lamb a la SFJoe. Pop 'n' pour produced a wine that was still recognizably Zin yet rounded and fully mature. It still had plenty of Zinberry fruit not yet verging into plummy territory and enough acidity on the back end to make it a good food wine. It went down way too easily.

  • Zins do age in an interesting way, depending on how they are made. Ridge made this to age, for sure. 375ml bottle, well cellared, cork just staring to weep through the foil. Brown edge in the glass, nose of an old OTH wine. 20 seconds o the palate and the Zin fruit came through. 20 minutes in the glass and some Zin nose arrived. Sure, it would have been more enjoyable 10-15 years ago, but a fun experience nonetheless.

  • I don't really consider myself a Zin person but these old Ridges always make me reconsider. It is a bit more fruit forward than a lot of the wines on the table and easy to tell it is the 'new world' one, but I like some fruit in my wine. More of a darker almost raspberry meets boysenberry character. On the riper side and yet somehow the wine seems to capture the seeds that you get in those fruits that keeps them from being overly sweet. Very fun.

  • Bought at auction. Sadly not in great shape (despite a perfect looking bottle and cork). Volitle nose and baked fruit on the palate. No Improvement on day 2. Nowhere close to the awesomeness of the 91 Lytton I had a couple years ago.

    Oh well. No great wines....

  • Fill was top shoulder. Showed quite advanced but big fruit at the same time. Still some tannin. The most surprising thing was how sweet it seemed. Dunno if that was a fruit character or some under the radar rs. Didn't change much with air. Was a gamble that didn't pay off.
