  • Appearance: Clear, medium intensity garnet with paler rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, showing fully developed and medium intensity aromas of cherry, red berries, smoke, oak, sweet spice and earthy characters.
Palate: Dry with medium plus acidity. Medium tannin level showing ripe though chalky texture. Medium alcohol level and medium minus body, showing medium intensity flavors of cherry, earth, sweet spice and oak. Medium minus length, a bit too acidic affecting the overall balance.
Conclusion: Acceptable quality mainly due to the short length and acidic nature on the balance. Ready to drink but will not improve, can maintain for the coming 2-3 years.

  • Crazy to say, but I've come to love its skunky green, glazed donut sweetness even more than the nobler 2007. After four bottles, it grew on me far more than I'd ever have thought upon tasting this wine initially.

  • Geez what a far cry from Giroud's work in '07 & '08--and even David Croix's other '06s I'd tried back in May '09 (Beaune, Vosne Romanee, Aloxe-Corton, Gevrey, Marsannay). This is far sweeter and bigger than any Giroud wine I've ever had; '06 sure made itself known in these grapes. Showed better the second time I had it--different night, without any other varietals or wines in my mouth. So very sweet and skunky....calls to mind the Enderle and Moll Spatburgunder, even if that is admittedly a nobler wine. Such thick, pungent stuff on the nose. To my palate, this is a bit like a child with special needs, who can be great given just the right context. Mediterranean fare--kibbeh, especially--seems to offer a nice counter. Still: it's Giroud, and there's nobility hiding in there. Still love the house.
