  • typical leroy nose rich in darker fruits a bit tannic but resolved itself after opening.

  • The aromatics were quite enticing, showing fresh sweet fruits, a touch of mushroom and earth and a little cold coffee. The palate was sweet and textured up front but a little hard and astringent on the finish with quinine like bitterness….enter roast Barossa chicken, that had slices of Chorizo under the skin. The wine immediately looked more at ease as the harder elements sliced through the fat of the meats leaving an impression of only the sweeter and exotic elements in the mouth. The fruit was quite plump, tender and jube like and dark liquorice flavours crept in. It really was a thoroughly enjoyable food and wine match. After the last morsel of chook was masticated the wine got a little sulky and regressed to its meaner personality, but it mattered little as most of the bottle had well and truly disappeared.

  • Drunk with the Clavelier 2002, this didn't in fact seem much older, but it was more stuctured, gamey, dustier, but the deep raspberry fruit showed a kinship with the younger wine
