Transparent, bright. High toned, red fruit, cranberry. I've found before that Gloria can be Rioja like. Interesting that C said that the palette and finish was reminiscent of a good old Rioja, in particular, Tondonia. Very enjoyable.

I have sentimental reasons for liking Gloria, it was cheap, fill was good, I've found some surprising nice drinking midlevel '71s, and there was a good recent CT review. Well, too bad. This wasn't dead from a fruitless point of view, there was some cassis and black raspberry with just an edge of pruniness, but there was an overwhelming taste of cigarette ashes. I've had wines that seemed fruitless show some life after a few hours, but my experience is the ashtray thing usually means "doornail." What the hell, I took a sip later. Yep, even worse. Still, nothing ventured nothing gained. D

Clear pale luminous blood colour, quite wide paler browned rim. Quite firm blackcurrant and mulberry fronted nose mingling harmoniously with spice, cedarwood and farmyard notes. Lovely full and smooth but not big in the mouth, firmly spiced blackcurrant flavours, with quite a big whack of well integrated wood flavours. Good length and a clean harmonious savoury finish fully in line with the palate. Fully mature "proper claret" of no great sophistication or density, but a delightful dinner partner. Drink up !

Sweet cedar, tobacco, cheese, silky smooth with a nice bit of rich warmth, autumnal.
