  • Classic Pessac-Léognan. Beautiful with distinct mineral notes. Shows a freshness that indicates a much younger wine than this 2006. Extremely elegant and long.

  • Pretty garnet. Decanted for 20 minutes. Moderate amount of sediment. Nose was surprisingly primary, fruity and sweet. A hint of lavender that ran through a red fruit core. Some complexity emerged with more time in the glass, but then after about 2 1/2 hours, the wine started to disappear. It was enjoyable and delicious while it was there. Surprisingly youthful. At retail, a nice value.

  • Exceptionally healthy cork. Nice deep garnet colour and nice notes of graphite, Cassis and slight hint of mint. Very restrained at first sip, but opened up very nicely in the glass over the next hour to reveal a very elegant and well structured classic Pessac. Drinks beautifully now, but certainly no rush to drink my remaining bottles.

  • Solid claret, dependable as always, this had a lovely marriage of really quite juicy and succulent black fruit and then some classic older cab-sauv vibes. There is some gameiness, some leather, wood and dust, but it is the rich fruit I keep coming back to and that really is the core of this wine. As it opens up the blackcurrant is somewhat replaced by redcurrant, or something on the lighter spectrum at any rate. Drinking very nicely at 17 years, not sure it will improve from here so just go for it, you won't be disappointed. Two identical bottles consumed.

  • Dark red. Quite a restrained nose, blackcurrant quite prominent and this grows, but also scented wood and lead. This is a cool wine, smooth and rather silky. Initially you could almost call it lean, but it expands with time and the fruit gets sweeter. No fireworks, no fuss or drama, solid quality and just an extremely nice bordeaux in a good spot. Decanted two hours in advance and improved throughout the meal.
