Drank this on Coravin night 1. Started out bold, fruit forward, tannic, and needed to settle in. Started to hit the sweet spot after sitting about an hour in the glass. Mellowed and became more balanced. Let the second glass sit and it was very enjoyable. I had high hopes for night 2 and popped the cork on the remaining half-plus bottle. Night 2 started out extremely tannic. Moreso than I recall on night 1. I was a little disappointed for the first hour, but it eventually evolved to taste more like an aged Beringer PR. Softer mouthfeel, pleasant cherry/raspberry on the front, slight prune/raisin taste on the mid palate, not a super long finish. Not a ton of structure, but still enjoyable. Aged 2006 Napa cab has been a mixed bag for me so far. The ‘06 cabs I have tasted recently lack the sophistication, elegance, and predictability of comparable ‘05 and ‘07 examples I’ve had the privilege of drinking as of late. I still haven’t met a Beringer PR I don’t like, so this is still a nice wine.

Last of 12 bottles purchase in 2011. Cork broke again, but wine drank beautifully - paired great with grilled Filet. No tasting notes given setting - wine was consistent with my last bottle from early 2023. 93+/-

Black fruit, cedar, black currant, herbal notes, pepper, cassis, spice, a touch of acidity, graphite, and some tannins on the finish. The tannins have really balanced. Wine is interesting.
It doesn't have the complexity of other wines from the release dinner like 2013 and 2016. But it's in the showing really well. It's a really nice wine.

(BERINGER Private Reserve Cabernet) Cabernet Dear Friends, Deals come and go but a few of them cause even me to perk up my eyes - this is one of them. Regardless of vintage, we seem to get requests for the Private Reserve year in and year out. The wine has nothing to do with the Garagiste mantra, small production or anything artisanal but (in my mind) it's perfectly fine to take a break from the madness once in a while. With the 2006 version, we have one of Napa's stalwart wines with the critical praise to back up the long list of fine vintages that have preceded it (Tanzer does not hand out 93s like candy so the 2006 is obviously cut from a serious mold). If you ask the winery they will tell you the hallmark of this vintage is balance and reflection - it tastes of Napa without all the smoke and mirrors - sort of an old-school throwback from a modern source (in a sense, that does resonate with the Garagiste philosophy). Instead of pooh-poohing this just because it's Beringer, I like to keep my eyes and options open for the benefit of everyone reading this missive and I've done just that. Here goes... While they make room for the 2007, we have a crazy deal on our hands that does not require a lot of research: This parcel has impeccable provenance: 2006 Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA CA8840
