  • Decanted for 4 hours, light color and aroma, fruit forward and jammy with some tannic relief on the finish. A delicious wine that may need a couple more years for the fruit to calm ever so slightly. 91+ at this point.

  • P&P This is very forward. Licorice, herb, charry oak on the nose. Sharp acid, fruit attack, tannins there, but should come on with time. This is a bright, young straight forward Cab. Black Tea, tobacco, wet rock on the finish. Balanced, yummy. Should be interesting with some more time.

  • A very good wine went down tonight. This wine was ready to go pretty much from the pop, but it was decanted for about an hour before dinner. This wine is the true embodiment of Howell Mountain wine. Comparable only to Cimarossa and Arkenstone's wines (ok, Aloft too), Beringer makes a ridiculous Steinhauer single vineyard, and not at the ridiculous Arkenstone or Aloft price. This wine is probably 1 year away from the very top of its peak, and then down from there. The wine shows amazing opulence. Firstly, might I add that this was probably the most difficult cork I have ever removed from a wine bottle ..... 4 pieces, a butler's knife and a two tier corkscrew and 3 minutes of time all necessary here!! Starts off with a nice blackberry cassis on the nose. Intoxicating mountain fruit nose. The palate is about 1/3 nilla wafer dipped in vanilla frosting, 1/2 dark rich blackberry, with the remainder mostly bourbon barrel heat! The wine settled quickly to a very rich and very layered mid-palate that was leather, blackberry, smoky, even starting to show some age as it sat for a couple of hours. The finish still had plenty of oak tannin. The wine did mellow in both this department and the bourbon barrel department. I am rather certain 2016 is NOT the drink by date on this wine - would say probably closer to 2020. You can drink this one now if you decant probably 2 hours.

  • Very good to excellent Cab. Great color almost black with moderately long legs. On the nose aromas of sweet dark berries with a hint of smokiness. We decanted the wine for an hour and it really needed all that time and maybe more with initial tastes of cherries, licorice, and tar after a while sweet plums emerged with a long leather finish. Very good wine worthy competitor of any other wine in this price point and vintage.
