I really like good Chardonnay with a little age. This bottle was well structured with a good mineral base, and complex perfumed nose. More flower than fruit. Maybe a hint of burned caramel from the age. I don't think it has the complexity or ageworthiness of Burgundy, but still very good.
Every once in a while, you're blessed to taste a classic wine! This Hawk Hill is one of those. It's the asskicking, real deal! Think Premier Cru Meusault and you'll begin to get the idea. The bouquet starts off with lemon and pineapple. There's a noticeable touch of oak and butter. Better yet, butterscotch. Then it really gets complex. The incredibly long finish continually morphs with citrus and spice flavors. Hope you've been as lucky as me to have tasted this beauty.
