Was once again (4 years later) a wow wine for me. Tons of dark chocolate, embers, tobacco that never quit on a looong finish. Texture is a bit gritty yet velvety...fun! Dark fruited with good balance despite its big personality. No artificial sweetness made it very serious. Nose was similar to palate.
Something of a Jeckell and Hyde wine. Decanted and refilled the bottle. Initially, it was wonderful with typical Hall sweet Cabernet fruit shining. After about 4 hours, it seemed raisiny and over the hill. Recorked and finished the next day only to find no change. It was drinkable, but not the same wine anymore.
This one is not for everyone. Very earthy - green pepper, barnyard, cedar bouquet that disguises the aroma. Initially non-descript and maybe a bit watery, but opens to the earth and then black fruits explode especially black berry with a hint of cedar and menthol with chewy tannins. The finish is long and evolving. Brickish color is starting to set and fruit is going, so I would assume to drink sooner than later.
