Popped and poured. In agreement with other tasters who have reviewed it recently - fully mature and ready to drink. Fading, but comfortable like a pair of well-worn shoes. Best in the first 30 minutes after opening - dropped off considerably afterward. Drink up now.
Great solid cork with little penetration. Double decanted a couple of hours before tasting. Moderate sediment. A more robust and all round better bottle than my previous one 2 and a half years ago. Both black and red fruits here with some cedar, decaying underbrush, tobacco and leather. A nice sweet-savoury balance going on. Essentially resolved on the palate which is quite refined. Not overly silky though, with some fine grained tannins remaining. Very tasty and decent concentration for the vintage. A really comfortable wine - like a well worn Chesterfield.
Last of 24 and possibly the best showing of this formerly angular and rather pinched wine, now fully mature and on the light side, but nice balance and length with usual plum, black cherry, tobacco, mocha flavour profile and less round and silky than better vintages, of weak vintages the 97 is to be preferred. Fine for what it is (17.5/20).
Now fully mature this has filled out quite well with lovely chewy cherry flavours with hints of tobacco, truffles, smoke and underbrush. It has decent structure and length. Right now it is delicious and very enjoyable. A notable success in a difficult vintage.
