Cellartracker in the flesh with Stefan, Mats & Tomas (Primo Yokohama, Yokohama): Leather, earth, plums and cherry, sweet spice, tar, dried flowers and orange peel, slightly meaty notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, medium plus intensity drying, chalky tannins, leather, cherry, a little sweet spice, slightly dried cherry, long with a sense of denseness and breadth across the mid palate. Lovely

Decanted for 2 hours. Garnet with scarlet hints. Gripping nose of scented plum fruit, camphor, balsam, tar, and violets. Deep diving layers of dark plum, black cherry, and strawberry fruit on the palate undergirded with tar and earth. Refreshing acidity and firm tannin leading to long finish of textured dark fruit with tongue-curling concentration and tarry depth. Compelling wine of added dimension and drive. First experience with this producer.

Piedmonte with only Barolo and Barbaresco (Restaurant Primo in Kannai, Yokohama): With Chatters, Vintomas and Mats @PRIMO. Theme: Old Barolo/Barbaresco.

A beautiful, mature Barolo. Tannins receding, yet strong and velvety. Aromatics here struck me as pure cherries with deep tar notes.

ESTG does Barolo at Marianna's (Renton, WA, USA): Quite modern. Deep, plummy, extracted, and intense. Generous fruit, very approachable, delicious, rich, again rather modern.

Decanted for 4 hours and enjoyed over 3 hour meal. In a great spot. Elegant while still providing ample weight. Very enjoyable.
