  • Popped and poured after a 30m decant. The cork broke half-way down. Very interesting nose with lots of vanilla air freshener, lemon curd and caramel. On the palate, medium-bodied, with a very nice acidic backbone that keeps this vibrant. There's no two ways around it, this is oxidized, but if that doesn't scare you off, it adds a ton of complexity and interest. There's still lots of fruit coming through - lemon, peach, but with some nutty Sherry notes and ground Indian spices. Packed with flavor, with a long finish. This is deep into love-it-or-hate-it territory, but I'm firmly in the love it camp. I prefer the 1996 (no strawberries this time), but this was just as interesting. I hope Kalin stays undiscovered, because they're brilliant. $35

  • My love-hate relationship with Kalin continues. . . Each bottle leaves me thoroughly confused and perplexed. This wine was very dry, and perhaps tannic, but with hints of butterscotch. It is very much like the '96 in my opinion. Kailin wines are incredibly difficult for me to pair with food.

  • Last bottle had signs of seepage...this bottle was in perfect cond. Darker golden in color, oxidative nose?? Ah oh? First taste....oxidized...I almost dumped it. Let it breath a few more minutes...couple swishes and spits...the wine came alive! Does have some oxidative sherry to it, but in an aged wine way. Canned peach, apples, not the waxy banana like I got last time(2007). Very smooth and creamy....yea...little honeycomb wax...loaded with hazelnut butter spice, torched sugar, lemon minerals. Very interesting sipping wine....I'm not too keen on oxidative notes in wines, but sometimes they work well to add to the complexity of an aged white. Not as excited in this bottle as I was 2 yrs ago...but still, has some extremely interesting flavors....and all-in-all, a fascinating wine!

  • Very interesting, complex. Goat cheese on the nose at first. Unusual and suprising.

  • The capsul came apart when trying to remove...stuck to the neck, with slight seepage on top the cork. Golden light yellow in color, looks good. Banana, waxy lemon oil, mineral, mango, hazelnut spice nose, very nice!. Very much alive! Waxy mouthfeel of tropical fruit, lemon citrus acidity, mineral stone, some banana liqueur, spice. Soft and round, yet packs nice crisp acid. Very interesting wine....aging well, and can do even more aging. Never know what your going to get with these Kalin wines....except one thing for sure...something interesting!
