  • Opened the cork 3 hours before drinking. Interesting experience. Got better the more it breathed. Turned out to be really good. A nice mature bouquet of vanilla, liquorice, tar, roasted herbs, dried fruit. Smooth and fine on the palate, tannins still there but softer, good concentration, loads of sweet spice, licorice, earth and dried fruit. Good length. Now is the time to drink this wine. Has finally reached its peak. I remember it as overly tannic and powerful in younger years. Impressive for a wine supposed to be quite simple to show so well at 11 years old.

  • I thought this would go nowhere except down the drain. Actually it has improved. Dark garnet, still lively colour. Initially nose seems like a mix of raisin and vinegar, but then improves with aeration, revealing leather, licorice and dried fruit aromas. Maybe has lost some intensity but somehow creeps up and disproves any premature judgment. The biggest improvement is on the palate though: now lighter, rounder and more integrated, still with a tannic bite but one that can be pleasing, along with oaky, caramel and leathery tones, and bright acidity. Not sure really how to evaluate this wine. Clearly not a top wine, but it put up a respectable show tonight and paired well with a rack of pork.

  • Lite garnet red. Black cherries on the nose. Black cherry, vanilla, some effervescence, very tannic.

  • Disappointing. Nose is actually quite nice at this stage, full of spices and liquorice, some dried fruits, dark berries, and a hint of coffee. The big problem is the palate: medium bodied with weak fruit, hardly enough to match the tannin. Unfortunately alcohol is not well integrated, the mid palate is rough and the finish drying and hot. Not easy to drink on its own, I had it with a steak but still didn't enjoy it at all. Overall, nose is good but palate is disastrous. I have 2 bottles left. I'll give this wine one more chance in 2-3 years time, I seriously doubt it will improve but who knows?
