Community Tasting Notes (4) Median Score: 90 points

  • ABV: 14.4%. Wow ... the nose explodes with layers upon layers of black and dark red fruits (think plums, blackberries, black cherries, etc.) that's beautifully balanced with five-spice, black peppercorns, and roasted herbs. These profiles are in harmony on the palate with a rounded mouthfeel, supported by well-integrated acidty. The finish leaves your palate with bright fruit tones and a little spice that lingers after you swallow your sip. I've had Egelhoff wines in the past, but never had one with this kind of bottle age, and I've always loved the way the texture of his wines feel on the palate. This wine is drinking great now, but can easily cellar up to another decade (and possibly more). If you're eager to open your bottle soon, give it a quick decant and you won't be disappointed.

8/4/2022 - Raised the score by three points. OH ... MY ... this wine is just a big explosion of fruit now with hints of the herbs and spices in the background. The tannins are barely noticeable and every sip is like biting into a sweet, ripe, juicy piece of fruit. That acid keeping the palate lively as if there's a party going on, and extending the lovely, refreshing finish. Needless to say, I finished the second half of the bottle with ease ... and I really hope that I have another bottle of this in my cellar (fingers crossed).

  • Really good with smoky cooked steak

  • Dark, dense & powerful. Dominated by the antiseptic, wood, and gravel flavors found in many Bordeauxs that I love. Medium bodied in the mouth but long and lingering on the finish. Exceptionally made. Another stellar effort by Bob Egelhoff at a price point well below his "normal" cab.

  • Had last week with dinner at Avanzare
Huge Cab, deep reddish black in color, flavors seemed a bit off balance, but still a great wine.
    No elaborate tasting notes taken.

(Walton Cabernet Sauvignon) 95% Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Napa Valley Malbec, aged in French oak for 22 months. Opaque, dark garnet at the center with a faint orange rim, the Walton shows aromas of cherry, spice, cinnamon, and a slightly herbal note. It has bigger tannins and bolder acidity than the Egelhoff Cabernet, with raspberry, a hint of smokiness, and an oaky sweetness on the finish. Decant for aeration, and it will be perfect with a flavorful soft cheese. Winery Spotlight: Egelhoff Wines
