For a 10 year old Zin (back label says 5-8 optimal) this bad boy has not grown up one lick! Sort of like a 28 year old juvenile delinquent that you hope grows up SOME DAY but its getting a little late...... Very Brambly, juicy, blackberry fruit on the nose and palate with subtle spicey overtones (nice touch that) but over all the impression is disorganized, wild, brambles out of control, juicy juicy, tannins on the end. A touch crazy. All in all interesting.
Tasted again after the bottle had a few days to open up. Much more civilized. Nice smooth tannins on the mid palate, much more elegant. 89+
Dark garnet red Restrained notes of leather, red currants, dried cranberries, dark bittersweet chocolate and churned earth. Medium bodied with plus acidity and a silky tannin mouthfeel. Opens up in time to reveal stronger notes of bramble and anise with a subtle touch of chocolate dusted cherries on a rather long finish. Excellent wine, and one that should last another decade.
Intense red-purple color - looks younger than it is. Blueberry, raspberry, mocha, tobacco, vanilla on the nose. Quite mellow on the palate, dark fruit, forest floor/mushrooms. Good structure with some acidity to give it some backbone. Light on the tannins right now, but with a long finish and some acidity building up. Exceeded my expectations.
