Cork still intact, really sturdy Very dark plummy red colour. The nose is overwhelming with dark fruit some mushroom and vanilla. During 45 minutes the wine keeps evolving; after half an hour in the glass it seems to go down after showing more red cherry fruit and a higher acidity. After this it seems like having a second peak where there is a beautifull coming together of plummy and red fruit aromas, packed in a perfect acidity. After 45 minutes it seems like losing it with the acidity going higher and we finished the glasses. A wonderfull experience!
At Berns steak house what a glorious bottle of wine smooth delicious deep red color awesome until the last sip... I often think wines from St Emillion age more like burgundy with subtle rich flavors low and alcohol . Very nice..
Roberson 1961 tasting - 29 Sept 2011. The Troplong Mondot was great , it carried a great vibrant Merlot nose with clear cassis and cherry aromas which evolved to cedar, bacon, marsipan and some dark chocolate bitterness. It was still amazingly young with a good structure and balance. Very Burgundian
What RockinCabs said! Bday dinner at Fig Tree in San Antonio. RockinCabs hit the nail on the head. VERY complex, structured wine. WOTN. Must admit, with my limited experience with Bordeaux, especially aged Bordeaux, since I'm a late comer to the party, this wine has now made me a true lover of aged Bordeaux. While this wine sang by itself, with dinner it truly was an existential experience.
