  • The cork had a very strong scent of dark 80% chocolate. More than I ever sniffed. After a while cigarbox emerged as well. The wine had a bit of dark cherry which was quicly tight down by tannins. So we poured it into a decanter and went downtown to buy a Palari Paro 2007 and have a glass of Henriot Blanc le Blancs at the wine bar connected to teh wine store. Went back home and cooked fried potatoes, beef tenderloin steaks, and a concoction of onion, red bellpepper, mushrooms, barbera d'alba, a twig of rosemary, and in the end some heavy cream. The wine was now opening up. Dark dried amerena cherries, vanilla, chocolate, cigar, and after a while some resins showed up as well. Finish was only medium long, so 90 points is enough. This is not a very expensive wine so it fares quite well.

  • Still almost black, red rim. Rich, plummy nose. Fruit dominates in the mouth, spiced plum, but good bite to finish. Plenty of tannin giving weight. At least five years in it.

  • Slightly to rich and jammy in the nose with some angular notes.

  • Ruby red rim, black red centre. Damson nose. Smooth and full in the mouth, almost sweet. Plum and cherry, with a lingering bramble, jammy finish. Strong enough for any meal. Good for at least 10 years.

  • D.C. Dinner for Greg Golec (Toscana Cafe - DC): A pretty ripe Super Tuscan with dense red fruit, tobacco, warm spices and garrigue. This was teetering on the edge of being over-the-top for me, but seemed to have enough acid and minerality on the finish to keep it relatively in balance. Thought it was just a hair too dense and big for my tastes. Wasn't a huge fan, but many at the table enjoyed it.
