Rich blue & black fruit, bacon fat/meaty note, baking spices, still fresh w. balancing acidity with some still firm tannin. Showed younger than i thought it would. Will be interesting to revisit tomorrow
Agree with Grinner. Similar to other old zins. The juicy fruit is gone. The secondary notes of dried fruit and flowers persist and are very nice with an hour or two of air. Smooth and reasonably enjoyable.
A remarkably fine bottle of wine. I had feared that this was well beyond its prime, but the addition of the Petite Syrah, Grenache and Carignane seems to have strengthened the backbone. The wine was elegant with tones of earth, cedar, lavendar and spice in the nose, some nice strawberry fruit nuanced with leather, spice and earth on the palate and a smooth rich finish. I wish that I still had another bottle!
