Another solid bottle from the same batch. Earth, iron, sous bois, blood, tobacco and leather on the nose. Palate is ethereal and energetic with lively acid and good fruit clarity. It is complex enough to keep me engaged throughout the evening. Classic good claret.

This was a wow wine. It combined all the elements - a nose with smoke, rocks, blended dark and red fruit. The palate was something else with quite a bit of grip on it and gained complexity as we tasted - more sensations of minerals, dark fruit, leaves, soil. This was my favorite and interestingly had more depth than the Beychevelle from presumably a better vintage?

Beautiful nose with crushed stones, dark fruit, smoke, truffle and tobacco. The wine opens up with layers and depth in the glass to become a youngster with plenty of power and vibrancy. Complex palate. Very good. 94+

Wow, what a vital, vigorous wine - even for 59. Huge nose, packed full of concentrated cassis, smoke, oak, grilled nuts, and leather. Lots of depth on the palate. Very impressive. From a high shoulder fill stored in the Mahler-Besse cellars. No need for prolonged decanting.
An interesting note about this wine is that it is the first vintage made with consultation from Émile Peynaud, who had known Michel Delon for a decade. The fermentation and maceration had been quite short at Las Cases - 10 days total - and Peynaud increased that to 3 weeks.

I was a little nervous given the fill level but this is drinking extremely well! Soft and round, silky and ripe fruit. This was great.
