  • 1998 Saint-Cosme Côte-Rôtie. Alc 13.5%
    Still good color
Opened a d poured, no decant
Nose of leather and blood and barnyard

Palate still fairly intense. There are dried cherries and parchment mustiness. Some black olive notes and mushrooms come and go. It is smooth and has great texture but is mature

  • Four years later, the bacon shows up! Dark fruited nose, medium plus acid, well integrated tannins, silky texture. Wonderful bottle, just as good, if not better than last time I had this. Consistent with my last review. My WOTN.

  • Totally surprised after reading the last review. It's as if we drank the same wine but I don't see charred meat, black and green olives, charcoal, and bacon fatas something bad. The only thing I'd consider bad would be volatile acid but I did not experience that. This bottle completely exceeded my expectations. It was absolutely delicious. I'd go as far as saying this is entering peak and has a number of years left of life. It definitely feels a bit more mellow on the palate than on release but the nose is super strong. It has definitely benefited from time. It has aged gracefully, tannins are round, acid in check. All in balance. Great Cote-Rotie!

  • Not bad, but this is on the way out. Dull ruby/brick color. I get a bit of strawberry compote to accent the aromas of charred meat, black and green olives, salt brine. Medium-bodied, dusty/faded tannins, a bit of volatile acidity but it's not too intense or off-putting. Faint cherry and strawberry tries to peek out but gets pushed back by charcoal, bacon fat, green olives and pickle brine. This description might not sound very good, but I actually liked this wine and I wasn't expecting it to be great. With a pepperoni pizza on a Wednesday night, though, I was fine. Drink up if your bottle still exists.

  • Beginning to drink well, with more development and improvement to come. Long and relatively delicate.

Rockss and Fruit

(Chateau de St. Cosme Cote Rotie) Great purity to this wine. Nose of mint, leather, rasbperry, blueberry, charcoal and super-ripe roast beef. Very aromatic and layered nose. Almost akin to blood on the palate. Sappy, unctous and intense with perfectly ripened red fruits and a blackberry or black cherry thrown in every now and then. Balance was flawless and the acidity really lengthened the finish.
