We've offered a lot of Riesling lately but this is our only chance at Prum's 2008 Spatlesen at this price level.
In 2008, this cadre of Spètlese may as well be Prum's Auslesen. The vintage had its home with Kabinett and Spatlese and Manfred Prum was not about to let a classic (even magical) Spètlese vintage escape him. In recent years the US market has focused mainly on two JJ Prum wines at this pradikat level (Wehlener and Graacher) but, in 2008, the epicenter was so obvious to Manfred Prum that he felt a need to resuscitate his emphasis on two other vineyards that were far more prevalent at this house during the 1980's and 1990's (Bernkasteler Badstube and Zeltinger-Sonnenuhr). While everyone will chases the Wehlener due its history and relative fame among Riesling aficionados and historians, do not ignore the other three. In 2008, you will find a windfall of riches at the Spètlese level and (as it usually is) JJ Prum finds itself among the very best wines of the vintage.
