Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 89.3 points

  • stumbled across this in the basement--a gift from years ago that was 'lost' and presumably past due; yet, it was delightful; rich sous bois nose; rich/dense layers of ripe plum/cranberry with hints of prune that goes right thru midpalate and on to the finish; good savory and cedar notes are well integrated; first time i can recall using the words prune and cedar in reviewing a cali merlot and still giving it a good score (maybe i don't get around)...and enough fine acidity to keep it bright....go figure...surprisingly good.

  • Agree with JerryPat. The initial nose is of leather, like new shoes, but the fruit soon comes out. Very nice. Can't see it getting any better.

  • Probably should have decanted this before the meal. 2/3's of the way through the bottle it stood out has one of the finest merlots that we have enjoyed recently. Upon opening, the nose was that of a meadow with a touch of leather. As it breathed the fruit really began to show through. Tannins are nicely integrated at this point, probably approaching it's peak.
