stumbled across this in the basement--a gift from years ago that was 'lost' and presumably past due; yet, it was delightful; rich sous bois nose; rich/dense layers of ripe plum/cranberry with hints of prune that goes right thru midpalate and on to the finish; good savory and cedar notes are well integrated; first time i can recall using the words prune and cedar in reviewing a cali merlot and still giving it a good score (maybe i don't get around)...and enough fine acidity to keep it bright....go figure...surprisingly good.

Probably should have decanted this before the meal. 2/3's of the way through the bottle it stood out has one of the finest merlots that we have enjoyed recently. Upon opening, the nose was that of a meadow with a touch of leather. As it breathed the fruit really began to show through. Tannins are nicely integrated at this point, probably approaching it's peak.

Agree with JerryPat. The initial nose is of leather, like new shoes, but the fruit soon comes out. Very nice. Can't see it getting any better.
