Showed better than the 2002. Crimson red. Some pruney notes with burnt wood and baking spices. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and some stewed berries. Medium bodied and long finish. Great texture with some furriness. Not overly fruity, definitely reserved. Drink till 2017.
Mix of garnet and crimson red. Some soft dark berries like mulberries and plums. Dark cherries on the attack with some woody notes and secondary notes like mushrooms. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and well integrated. Full bodied with a long finish. Drink till 2020.
I was worried this bottle would be past peak. Not at all. Bright blackberry fruit in the nose. Red berries with hint of cedar and chocolate on the palate. Very fruit forward. We drank it right out of the bottle and then decanted for one hour. Tannins mellowed with decanting but I didn't think it made a huge difference. It was too yummy to wait any longer. So we drank it.
