  Opened 3days prior to serve. Light gold in color this still has slight sulfur on the nose that mask some of the aromas. Lemon honey with mineral and white floral notes that continue it flavor profile into the medium weight palate with fresh honey that is sweet for the entry, with ripe, green and red apple flavor kick in that added a little bit depth with some ripe acid and mineral linger around. The finish is kinda disjointed and short with slight heat. This is quite shut when the time I accessed. Buy - No.

  A Morning of Informal Tastings (Lam Soon): Opened for about 30 hours. Color was extraordinarily pale. Quite spritzy. The mid-level weight and sweetness places this clearly at the Spatlese level. Lithe, aromatic and quietly charming.

  Tasted blind. Young! A bit closed still. Powerful wine. Colour is somewhat whitish yellow. Melon, impressive concentration. Nice. 17/20. Roel and Jeroen guessed this was a 2007 or 2008 spätlese. I'd say the best has yet to come with this one. Follow for at least 8 more years.

  Riesling night @ Roel's (Netherlands): Modest floral nose with some apples and melon. Seems closed and extensive aerarion only showes a glimpse at the future. Again noticeable bitterness in the back. Very, very long. Was pretty surprised after the demasqué, cuz this was pretty bright, light and balanced in its sugar/acid balance. Felt more like a (thick) kabinett from a more recent year. 17/20

  Schäfer-Fröhlich Tasting + Some Extras (Beautiful Wines, The Plaza): Not a bad Riesling, but rather unusual - this was clearly a child of its vintage. Nose preternaturally developed character, with smoky, petrol notes, along with a caramel-like aspect - something you would expect from a wine at least 5-6 years older. There was some sticky fruit in there, nectarine scents I thought, along with a whiff of earthiness. Very developed I thought. The palate was somewhat of a surprise though. It showed quite a bit younger and sprightlier than the nose would have let on, with a citrusy flavour-profile ranging from green apples to grapefruit and lemon pith, along with a nice bit of mineral. There was a little honeyed tone in the background, but far from being sweet, this was actually a little austere at points. Balance was decent, although there was a bit of alcohol sticking out at the edges. I felt that this lack the fresh intensity of the other vintages though, so that this stucked out rather like a rustic, slightly simpler country cousin to the other more urbane, sophisticated Felseneck Spatlesen. Finish had more of that austerity, with some dry flintiness paired with more green apples and some bittersweet fruit pith flavours, before another dose of unusually toasty smokiness. Not great length, but decent enough. Very decent, not great, but this was certainly unusual, and rather interesting.
