A mid level Italian red from the Montepulciano region
In preparation for a trip to the region, I am re-familiarizing myself with some of these affordable gems. This one is also medium body light ruby colored red. The palette include cherries, mild amounts of iron and ash. A bit dry yet also quite balanced in the acidity and tannin. The finish is mostly cherries, some fig and a dusty feel.

Cork 80% soaked. Deep ruby/garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose is slightly spirit with some red toned cherry and spice lurking behind. Medium/full bodied, some attractive darker cherry toned fruit on the initial attack but slightly hollow on the mid-palate and falls away further on the slightly structureless finish. I do wonder about storage here - this is not quite right. NR?

9 years out and going strong. Tobacco, anise(black licorice), deep black grape flavors. Not raisiny. Color is a bit oxidized, but not the nose or taste. Continued to develop overnight. Surprisingly complemented pickled ginger and unagi. Makes me rethink sushi and red wine.
