Some obvious bottle variation here. Riper than the previous tasting, a little heat, but the classic sangiovese traits are a little lost in the process. Served a bit warm?

In good nick at 7yrs. Very cabernet like with deep cassis and mild herbal tannin. Indeed unlikely I would have picked as sangiovese. Aniseed to finish.

Five months on, and this is still quite tart, with cranberry/cherried fruit on the nose, and no sign of oak. Palate is dry, dusty and lightly grape-astringent. Light-medium bodied, it gently covers the front & mid-palates quite nicely. Faintly warm, medium length finish. Sound, fruity wine.

{screwcap, 14%, A$13) Bright, light crimson/ruby. Clean fresh nose of spiced cherries and sandalwood. Palate is light-medium weight, with non-threatening furry grape tannins, spicy, smoky cured-meat flavours, and a mostly front-palate finish of short-medium length enlivened by crunchy acid. Decent out-of-the-mainstream quaffer of Tahbilk's usual reliable, if not that exciting, standard.
