Decanted and enjoyed with dinner over ~2 hours. Immediately this has a pretty and enticing aromas of sour cherry, florals and spice. The palate is silky and refined yet so flavorful. Elegant Sangiovesse in a peak zone.

I've drank a lot of Poggio, but this is the oldest vintage I've tasted so far. Time in the bottle has been good to this, still super fresh, clean and refined like younger Poggio, but has taken on additional complexity and depth and is drinking great.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VII (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. An almost pinot-like stem note on the nose here that made me think that our generous host had poured a bottle of Dujac into a Bordeaux bottle. At this point in the evening though, my blind tasting skills were probably attenuated. In any case, this had a lovely red-fruited, perfumed nose, with some distinct dried herb flavours. Silky texture with lots of impressive complexity. I had been speaking with a friend, wondering if the wines post-Gambelli are at the same level as wines like this.

30 minutes in the decanter blew off some plummy fruit and musk, revealing a gorgeous nose of earth, violet, wet tobacco, some fading dark fruit, and smoke. Great attack with balanced acidity and suave structure, with long finish.
In the prime strike zone and will hold for 5 years plus.
