Tasted this blind and thought it was '06 Volnay :) Still even after knowing what it is I found it the most Burgundian Beaujolais that I've had. Quite pale colour, elegant, beautiful stuff. The complex red fruit flavors vibrate in the mouth. Some sediment in the bottle.
Pale, a little bit cloudy color. Unlike the previous bottle this didn't smell at all strange first, instead it was open right from the start with strawberries and some smoke. Again, the palate was fantastically light yet with great flavor intensity, and great seamlessness and style. Just beautiful.
I should have known not to even taste the wine when it was so reduced, salty, sulfury, and feet-smelling. But we were thirsty, and so we wasted half a bottle in a sort of thirst-quenching struggle to drink it. And then, 45 minutes later, it blossomed into a shockingly perfumey jammy strawberry cocktail with lead undertones on the nose and a lovely floral delicacy on the palate that hinted towards Metras flesh. Man I want that other half bottle back!
Rare gracefulness of character here. Right after opening, there were some mildly reductive aromas that blew off quickly. The first sip was quite underwhelming - very light in body and the taste was not open at all. Slowly however the wine revealed its beauty and I can understand why Métras has such a loyal fan base, if this wine is representative of the style. Subtlety, harmony, seamlessness, unique style. But you really have to listen to this wine, it whispers rather than shouts. Don't have it competing with anything else at the same time.
