Magnum best bottle (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux From Magnum. Deep golden color. Perfectly matured nose, some creme brulee, nuts, slightly oxidative. On the palate creamy, round, balanced, oxidative, joyful, fine mouseux. Champagne at its very peak, perhaps a bit past peak. Nice, but could not come close to the Krug this night. 92-93

Not blind, from Magnum
Typical 1996 acidity, still fresh, a bit short in the finish, low in tertiary aromas. 93

Pure toast in the nose. Crème caramel and crème brûlée on the pallette. Distinctive. Spectacular.

Overripe apples, honey and rather oxidative aromas. Weak bulles. Good but not great.

Salon Focofi Paris walkabout and dinner, so no detailed tasting notes. Like the 2006, this showed too oxidative for me as well. NR
