Tra il cerasuolo ed il rubino. Al naso mora, pepe rosa, ciliegia, bacche rosse, sottobosco, spezie, in un quadro continuamente cangiante. Bocca intensa, grassa, sapidissima, di straordinario carattere e lunghezza
Big wine for a rosé. Comes across as a viscous, full-bodied wine. Lots of fruit concentration that includes watermelon and mild strawberry. While it has acidity, it is still soft and mellow with a caramel component to it. I'm guessing this wine went through some malo-lactic fermentation. Changes across the palate from beginning to end. Very interesting and nice wine. A little pricey, but definitely worth a try. It's not what you think of when drinking a rosé, but is good for its own style. Drinks more like a chardonnay.
Friday Night at The Papies (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): A special wine to say the least nd does perplexe people when served blind. Decanted for 30 minutes mostly to help with the blind serving rather than to develop the wine which is open nd ready from the pop of the cork. Starts of light on the plte but builds into big body and finish. Very much true to SQN style it is 15.7% alc! Always an experience. 92-93
Beyond a Birthday dinner! (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): Very different this time than 2 months ago when we had it last. This time it was bigger , sweeter and with less of that lovely balanced smoky feel we loved (rated 96 in October 2012). Colour points to burgundy but that is as close as it comes. Still an interesting experience, full on strawberry notes, oak notes and sings out of the glass. Quite a bit of alcohol on the nose too and as time wet by it became more dominating. On the palate it is big, with a sweet core, 15,7% alcohol, density of fruit from start to finish. Quite a bit of heat on the finish. Very SQN. 93 this time
