Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 1 note)

Tasted by RPerro on 9/12/2009 & rated 88 points: Oregon Wine Country Tasting (Willamette Valley, OR): I just LOVE the 2008 vintage Oregon Pinot noirs! I was (am) not a fan of the lighter, more burgundian 2007's. Just my tastes...I'm not a big fan of Burgundy either. This wine is everything 2007 wasn't. Big, fruity, dark, and mouthcoating. Lots of cherry fruit, and a wee bit of tannic bite. May need a year to settle down. (160 views)

With vineyards throughout the Pacific Northwest, Owen Roe, named after a 17th century Irish patriot who dedicated his life to political equality and freedom, is owned and run by Jerry Owen and David O'Reilly (winemaker). Their aim is to source only the very best fruit from top sites in Oregon and Washington, handle it gently in the winery, and produce wines of superior balance and quality.
From winery: This Kilmore Pinot Noir is a blend of Pommard, Wadensvil, and Dijon clone Pinot Noir from exceptional vineyard sites in the Yamhill-Carlton District. Each site has distinct ocean bottom soils, and has little summer moisture forcing low vigor and small, intesely flavored berries. The 2008 Kilmore is lush with rich fragrant violet perfume and black fruit and coffee notes on the palate. This wine is one our all time favorites.

About red wine
Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.
