| Producer website With vineyards throughout the Pacific Northwest, Owen Roe, named after a 17th century Irish patriot who dedicated his life to political equality and freedom, is owned and run by Jerry Owen and David O'Reilly (winemaker). Their aim is to source only the very best fruit from top sites in Oregon and Washington, handle it gently in the winery, and produce wines of superior balance and quality. From winery: In the heart of Oregon's Dundee Hills, Ken and Penny Durant meticulously farm their stunning property. The two barrels that comprise this wine come from a 10 year old block of Pommard clone situated at 475 feet elevation. It is a seamless wine with exuberant red fruits and perfume with a balanced tart cherry finish. 46 cases produced. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success. This region is unique for its higher elevation, warmer nighttime temperatures, less low-elevation fog and frost, and lava-based Jory soil series of reddish silt, clay and loam soils. |
