  • This came from a German private collector, so the bottle probably had not travelled much and seemed to be in a perfect condition. Decanted for less than an hour it was drinking very nicely right off the bat and only improved over dinner. Very distinct, very Graillot kind of a nose of tapenade, stemmy greenness and bright blackberry fruit. Medium-bodied on the palate with everything in place: lifting acidity, gentle, ripe tannins and savory dark fruit with notes of tapenade and ground black pepper. Harmonious and highly enjoyable in the classic Graillot style, this perfectly illustrates what Crozes-Hermitage is capable of. At its peak I would say.

  • surprisingly 'with it' given it's age. great purity, only hints of secondary flavors-subtle leather and distinctly clay like flavors. Fruit was dark berries...while the wines in clearly beginning to recede, all the pieces are nicely in place. drink it up and enjoy it!

  • Dark red colour, brick on the rim. Well hung meat on the nose, actually still hints of the typical smell of a medicinal cabinet. Not as spicy on the nose as expected, but it is there. Hints of wet forest/barnyard. The palate is much more complex than the nose, there dark berries are much more present, crushed pepper, hints of oak and other spices - does not mirror the nose at all. Full bodied. Very soft tannins, acid OK, fruit is fine - perhaps a touch too much on the sweet side. Nice concentration and a nice long finish. A positive surprise given the age of the bottle, especially compared to how the regular Crozes drink at the same age.

Will still handle a few more years in the cellar, however I struggle to see the big potential benefits.
