Long finish. Really opens in the glass after about an hour. This wine is not too big. Very nice and silky. Somewhat fruity in the middle. The heat builds up then dissipates before it gets to be overbearing
Nose full of ripe fruit and spices. Undertones of a moist chocolate cake. Mouth is medium full. A bit more acidic than you would expectation first but it quickly blooms into a warm, full moth of fruit and spice box. Like others, I found it a little hot but that dissipates quickly. Finish is warm, glowing, and very pleasant and slowly fades away.
Tasted at the winery. After reading up on Stag's Leap, I expected this to be my favorite - and it was! Really outstanding complexity, smoothness, fruit (ripe cherry), and balanced tannin. Five out of five stars. This is the wine to buy!
